The Resort
Twin Lakes Resort was established in 1936. In the 1940's, it was a favorite fishing spot for President Hoover, who paid $200 to have a cabin built on the property for his personal as well as public use. That particular cabin was destroyed in a wind storm, but Cabin 1 sits in its place today. The resort has been operated by numerous families over the years, and enjoyed by generations of families and locals.
South Twin Lake
Both South and North Twin Lakes were formed around 20,000 years ago as volcanic activity created two craters that later filled with water. South Twin Lake has an elevation of 4,334 ft, a surface area of 99 acres, and a maximum depth of approximately 58 feet (depending on current water level). There is no water inlet or outlet, so South Twin Lake is fed by underwater springs and precipitation. The lake is known for its quality rainbow trout fishing and it's family friendly beaches. South Twin Lake has been killed off a number of times to eradicate illegally introduced fish, most recently in 2011, and North Twin Lake was killed off in October of 2015 to rid the lake of illegally introduced brown bullhead catfish. The lake is rich with weedbeds and a wonderful spot for both first-time and experienced anglers. There is a trail around the South Twin lakeshore approximately 1.6 miles long, as well an offshoot trail that leads to North Twin Lake.
Wickiup Reservoir
The Twin Lakes Resort RV Park sits on the shores of the Deschutes Channel leading into Wickiup Reservoir. Wickiup Reservior is the second largest reservoir in Oregon and the largest of the Cascade Lakes. The reservoir was created in 1949 by damming the Deschutes River. Anglers fish Wickiup for brown trout, kokanee, and rainbow trout. The reservoir is also one of Central Oregon's premier destinations for wildlife viewing because it attracts a wide variety of nesting and migrating birds.
